Lessons from Kitakyushu and its People

The participants spent their final day in Kokura, the centre of Kitakyushu. Starting from Kokura Station, we looked in at the office of NPO I-Do, which carries out a bike share service called 'City Bike Project', and the president explained how they manage their project. From the north entrance through the station, we headed toward the southern area of the central station, stolling along Uomachi Gintengai, the oldest shopping arcade in Japan. After the brief session from Ms. Tae Morikawa, a cordinator of Kitakyushu ESD(Education Sustanable Development) council, the participants had a walking tour around the shoping arcade, whose activities won the 1st prize of 'Japan SDGs Award' in 2019, getting direct impression of their committment to the SDGs. In the afternoon, there were more sharing sessions from the local stakeholders which contribute to the implementation toward the SDGs in Kitakyushu. As the final activity, the participants presented their own conceptual SDGs action plan based on their group works and discussions, closing their programme with certification ceremony and group picture with the certificates.
