Day 4 @ Goto City
We visited Japan’s first floating offshore wind turbine “Haenkaze” and additional offshore wind farm under construction in Goto! Before boarding the ship, a model of the windmill under construction was explained by Mr. Kondo, the Goto City Tourism Association. They are fixed to the seabed with three chains, and the upper part of the pillar is made of steel from Nagasaki Prefecture, and the lower concrete part is manufactured in Goto City, contributing to the local economy.
All participants were excited to see the Haenkaze’s large spinning blades up close!

E-Wind Co., Ltd., a wind power generation maintenance company, and Goto Citizen Electric Power Co., Ltd. taught us about the principles and systems that revitalize the region through local production and local consumption of energy.
Mr. Chokichi Kumakawa of the Goto Fukue Fishery Cooperative, which has been making efforts to coordinate among fishermen, wind power operators, and local governments for many years since the Haenkaze demonstration project, spoke with us about the passionate experience on coexistence and co-prosperity and trust building of fisheries and offshore wind power.
